Let’s talk shots: Free webinar helps dentists discuss COVID-19 vaccine with patients

Dentists and dental team members seeking to learn more on how to effectively discuss the COVID-19 vaccine with their patients can attend a free webinar discussing a key role the profession can play in increasing vaccine confidence.
Let’s Talk Shots! – Effective Patient Conversations & the COVID-19 Vaccine will stream on March 3, noon Central time. The webinar will provide dentists with talking points on the value, safety and necessity of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
Continuing education credit is pending.
The learning objectives of the webinar include:
• Strengthen confidence in the dental team’s role and ability to discuss and promote the COVID-19 vaccine with their patients.
• Deliver proven tools for talking through vaccine fact or fiction with patients in the dental office.
• Learn motivational interviewing techniques to listen to patients’ concerns and address them in a patient-centered manner resulting in shared decision-making.
• Incorporate cultural and racial sensitivity and humility into discussions of vaccine hesitancy.

Speakers include Hugh Silk, M.D., a professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s department of family medicine and community health and cofounder of “Smiles for Life,” the award-winning national curriculum on oral health for health providers; Brittany Seymour, D.D.S., associate professor and global health discipline director at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine; and Winifred J. • GKAS 2022 at the Bayview Ave. School Video Our 2022 GKAS event was held at the Bayview Ave. School of Arts & Science in Freeport, NY. This was our first "in-school" event in the 19 year history of our program as well as the first time we did a combined indoor and outdoor event. The 550 students there received free dental exams, fluoride treatments, sealants, oral hygiene instructions and nutrition education by our 100 volunteers. The Lion’s Club of Long Beach also provided free eye exams. We thank our wonderful Volunteers as well as Dr. Mary Garguilo, Principal of the Bayview Ave. School, Mr. Stanley Bergman, CEO of Henry Schein, Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, Northwell Health, the New York State Dental Foundation, Sports Depot, The Long Beach Lion's Club, Fidelis Care, Liberty Dental, and Vivo Entertainment for their help in making this day possible as well as Michael Krien of Patkin Photography for putting together this wonderful video.
