For the first time this year at the Nassau County Dental Society's March 2018 Give Kids A Smile® event, and in the history of the national American Dental Association's Give Kids A Smile® Program, specially trained dentists volunteered to provide dental exams for special needs children from the Henry Viscardi School at The Viscardi Center. However, a limited number of individuals were able to be transported to the event venue to be screened. Recognizing the great necessity for this special population of children to be provided with dental care, the Society's Committee on Access to Care has decide to bring our volunteer dentists to The Viscardi Center so that more children and adults with disabilities can receive the dental care that they need and deserve.
The Society will be collaborating with Project Accessible Oral Health to provide the first dental screening event at The Viscardi Center in Albertson, NY for people with disabilities. Project Accessible Oral Health operates as a not-for-profit under The Viscardi Center, a network of organizations that educate, employ and empower children and adults with disabilities. This invite-only event's strategic goal is: to connect more than 200 people from the disability community with much-needed access to treatment, education and a dental home; gather data that can influence policy; raise awareness of the need for improved access; and act as a catalyst for action in creating a successful, turnkey event that can be replicable. Your participation in this event is greatly needed to make the event a success and will make a significant impact on this important effort.
Thank you in advance for your support of this important initiative. To learn more about Project Accessible Oral Health, visit ProjectAccessibleOralHealth.org.
