The Board of Directors of the Nassau County Dental Society (NCDS) have considered two amendments to the NCDS Constitution and Bylaws. These amendments will be voted upon at the Monday, October 2, 2017 General Membership/Nominations Meeting at 6:30pm at the Jericho Terrace, located at 249 Jericho Turnpike, Mineola, NY. Each amendment must be approved by the affirmative vote of two-thirds of those active, life or retired members present in person for adoption. Voting by proxy is not permitted.
Amendment to the
Background Statement: In the past both nominations and elections of the at-large members of the Council on Nominations occurred at the November General Membership meeting. This complicated an already busy meeting by requiring separate ballots to be printed and distributed during the meeting. By moving these nominations to the October meeting, when all other nominations are announced, it would allow for a single ballot to be made for all necessary voting prior to the November General Membership meeting when all voting would take place.
Resolved: That Chapter I, Section 90 of the Bylaws of the Nassau County Dental Society be amended as follows (new language underscored;
deletions stricken through):
A. Stated Meetings: Stated meetings of the general membership shall be held in January, October, and November and at other times such that no less than five meetings occur annually. Notice of meetings shall be published in the official publication of the Society or on the Society’s website, setting forth the date, time and place for each meeting, no less than thirty (30) days prior to the date of the meeting. All stated meetings shall take place within the
and directors and the at-large members of the Council on Nominations shall occur at the October meeting. Election of candidates for elective offices, elective positions, and directors as well as nomination and election of the at-large members of the Council on Nominations shall occur at the November meeting.
Amendment to the To Increase Membership Dues for 2018
Background Statement: The Board of Directors, and particularly the Council on Finance Budget & Audit, work very hard at being fiscally responsible, while still providing member benefits. After spending many hours on the budget for 2018, it was determined that a small dues increase was necessary to balance the budget and avoid large increases in the future.
Resolved: That Chapter I, Section 60 of the Bylaws of the Nassau County Dental Society be amended as follows (new language underscored;
deletions stricken through):
A. Active Members. The dues for active members shall be
three hundred sixty five three hundred seventy two dollars ($ 365.00372.00) due January 1 of each year, except that any dentist, who satisfies the eligibility requirements for active membership under Section 20A of this Chapter of the Bylaws, and who satisfies any of the following conditions shall be entitled to pay the reduced active member dues listed under such satisfied condition so long as such dentist maintains continuous membership, subject to the further reductions permitted under the provisions of Section 60H of this Chapter of the Bylaws.
