INSTRUCTOR'S CURRICULUM VITAE

Stephen Sachs, DDS

Dr. Sachs received his DDS from Columbia University, School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1970. He then served his residency in oral surgery at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and it's Queens Hospital Center Affiliation. After completion he remained as a staff oral surgeon and rose to be the Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Co-Program Director, a position he held for 15 years. In 1988 Dr. Sachs founded the New York Center of Orthognathic and Maxillofacial Surgery.  Dr. Sachs has also served as an examiner for the American Board of OMFS.

Adam Abel, DMD, MD

Dr. Abel graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where he earned a DMD degree and received several awards for academic excellence.  He subsequently completed his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center, earing an MD degree as part of an integrated dual-degree program.                                                          

 
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

The paradigms have shifted in the treatment of dentofacial deformity. Advances in information technology, biomedical technology, and concepts of orthognathic surgical protocols have dramatically advanced the surgical scope, safety, and accuracy of orthognathic surgery. Through this didactic lecture, including specific case studies, this evolution will be demonstrated.

Educational Objectives:

1. Understand the indications for orthognathic surgery

2. Understand the basic components of diagnosis and treatment of dentofacial deformities.

3. Introduction to the changes in this surgical discipline that have enhanced outcomes for patients with congenital as well as acquired deformities of the jaws, restoring normal facial form and function.
