NCDS GKAS 2026
The Nassau County Dental Society, along with their foundation, The Nassau Academy of Dentistry held their twenty-third Give Kids A Smile event on February 6, 2026, at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, NY. 1250 children attended our GKAS event and we had 365 volunteers. Included in these volunteers were 60 dental students from Stony Brook, Touro, and NYU dental schools. We also had 25 volunteers from Henry Schein Cares and over 50 dental residents from Northwell Health, One Brooklyn Health, Stony Brook, NYU, and Jamaica Hospitals. We also had several dozen students from local high schools.
Of the 1250 children, over 1000 received dental exams and fluoride treatments and over 150 children received sealants (4 x 150 = about 600 sealants). We had 10 puppet shows, run by students from SUNY Farmingdale Hygiene School and 3 Nutrition stations run by Northwell and Stony Brook hospitals. We also had a new event that had Christine LaSpina, a local Nassau County author of a series of children’s dental books called Tooth Adventures, who read her book, “Toothkins: The Dentist is Your Friend” to several of the classes. All the children who came saw a movie about good dental health in the IMAX theater. Also about 500 children received eye screenings provided by the Lion’s Club. All the children went home with a backpack filled with toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss, as well as a toy, dental themed coloring book, and written instructions on good dental care. Each child also received a freezer bag filled with three boxes of milk and apple donated by Dairyland Farms. In addition, all the children and all the volunteers received a voucher for 2 free tickets to a Long Island Nets basketball game on February 23, 2026, courtesy of the L.I. Nets organization. While at the event the children were also treated to water bottles and snacks provided by NCDS.
